Cranchi Mediterranee 43

When cruising in the Cranchi Mediterranee 43 it’s tough to decide which is more enjoyable, manoeuvering at close quarters with your fingertips on the IPS joystick, or flying through six-foot seas at 33 knots hanging onto the wheel. Actually, lounging at the dock in the 43’s comfortable cockpit isn’t entirely unpleasant either. This versatile beauty combines the latest breakthroughs in propulsion technology with a sea-savvy performance hull and luxurious Italian styling.

Cantiere Nautico Cranchi is one of the largest performance boat manufacturers in Europe. The Cranchi line currently offers craft from 27ft to 50ft. They are now built in three northern Italian facilities featuring robotics and state-of-the-art construction techniques.

You board Med 43 via the extended teak swim platform which is broad enough to carry a dinghy; there is also a dedicated slot for a life raft in the transom. Twin walkways lead up to the cockpit from either side of the platform. The rear cockpit holds an inviting seating area with ultrasoft butteryellow upholstery and is equipped with a convenient wet bar, barbeque and fridge. The dining table is engineered to tap into the engine room’s hydraulic pump, and can be lowered to form a large sun lounge and rear seat. A lounge seat to the port of helm and a double foredeck sun pad offer further sunbathing options. For shade, the radar arch supports fore and aft biminis.

The raised centre helm station is really eye-catching – a layout which Cranchi has successfully pioneered in earlier models. It gives the driver a panoramic view of the water around the boat and imbues a feeling of total control.

The Med 43 has two double cabins and two heads. Designing the yacht with IPS propulsion allows for an extra three feet of space in the mid cabin. The raised centre helm also allows a generous headroom of seven feet, in this exceptionally spacious cabin. Cranchi’s designers created space for an island double berth in this areaby placing it athwartships. Side windows and opening ports supply light and ventilation. Unlike many mid cabins it is also quiet, thanks to good noise insulation.

The interior joinery in the saloon is oak with a matte finish, contrasting with the African Wenge wood overhead cabinets. The sole is teak. This combination makes the saloon an extremely attractive room for entertaining. Opposite, the compact galley features frosted glass cabinets with dedicated racks for glassware and china. The stainless Isotherm fridge is much larger than is typically offered in Italian yachts of this size.

Overall the Cranchi Mediterranee 43 is one of the most attractive express cruisers on the market, and with a competitive price tag, represents excellent value for money.
