When you think of a high performance machine, you rarely think at the same time of great value for money. Yet Cranchi’s Mediterranée 47 offers just that.
The Med 47 (available in either hard top or open versions) was compared by Yachting Magazine to a ‘Café Racer’ – “Tuned for speed... these pocket rockets…aren't for everyone, but they are perfect for some,” wrote Chris Caswell, Yachting Magazine’s reviewer.
Caswell goes on to point out that Aldo Cranchi’s decision to create this niche model, amongst the 700 boats Cranchi put out each year, was a daring move. “It would have been safer to build a 47-footer for the masses: a yacht that did a little of everything but nothing particularly well. Instead, Aldo chose to take the high road by creating a cafe racer for the water,” he writes.
So, it’s a racer. How does it perform? Powered by 2 Volvo Penta D9 575 hp engines, acceleration is all you’d expect and she’ll do a neat 36 knots (41.5 mph) at full power. The hull design ensures that the M47 will slice easily through a 2-3 ft chop, while the hull’s Kevlar core means it can withstand rough treatment like no other. And, naturally, the M47 corners like… well, “…like an Italian sports car…,” according to the USA magazine, Sea.
Cranchi yachts are about more than just performance, though. The finish is second to none, not just in the usual obvious places, but in all the nooks and crannies too. Style too, as you’d expect from an Italian boat builder, is paramount and here the M47 borrows from the automotive world, with design lines you’d expect to see on something like a Porsche or Ferrari.
Then there's the detail and functionality. Like the 'garage' hidden under the aft sunpad, with plenty of room for either a tender or Jet Ski, launched on concealed rollers and brought back in using an electric winch. Then there's the foredeck – or the 'bow entertainment area' – complete with individually adjusted sunpad, stereo speakers, hot and cold showers and even a small refrigerator to avoid that irritating trip aft for a cold drink.
Of course, it goes without saying that the interior is spacious and luxurious, with a master suite forward and a 'queen berth' amidships. Ample headroom, plenty of storage and top quality materials throughout complete the picture.
Finally, perhaps one of Cranchi's most significant features is the lack of optional extras! Quite simply, pretty much everything you could expect, and a lot you've not even thought about, is included as standard.
