| All-New Corolla Altis |
| You have only to spend ten minutes standing by the side of the road looking at the passing vehicles, to realize that Toyotas overwhelmingly outnumber any other motor brand in Thailand. Their combination of performance, reliability and economy is epitomized by the Corolla model which in a range of models has dominated the Thai motoring scene for more than 40 years. So when Toyota unveiled the all-new 2008 Altis in January we were keen to take a look. |

The exterior styling is evolutionary but incorporates elements of
the larger Camry and there is even a hint of the Lexus look in the
new model. This Altis achieves new levels of luxury and sophistication-Brad
Pitt drives one! We can confidently predict that the new Corolla
will also become a star.
Let’s take a quick look at the new features:
- Unique front grille
- Automatically retractable HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlights
- LED spotlights
- Repeater direction indicators incorporated in the door mirrors
- Double level cargo space with 60:40 foldable rear seats
- Adjustable front armrests
- Eight mode seat positioning
- Impact protected electric mirrors
The Corolla Altis offers new levels of sophistication with advanced
EPS [Electric Power Steering] which automatically senses steering
loads and feeds assistance proportionately-leaving the driver effortlessly
in control. The state-of-the-art in-car music system [DVD, CD, MP3,
WMA compatible], is operated from steering wheel mounted controls.
This system incorporates ASL patented technology which senses ambient
sound levels and adjusts the playing volume accordingly. Automatic
speed control is standard so long trips are less tiring. For getting
in and out of those awkward parking spots, this new model includes
a rear-mounted camera linked to an LCD display.

The 2008 Corolla Altis comes with a choice of two power units: the
1.6 litre, individually injected 16-valve unit (3ZZ-FE) or the top-of-the-range
1.8 litre with full variable valve timing and intelligent fuel-injection
monitoring. Two gear trains are offered: a five speed manual box
and an automatic package incorporating advanced hill-sensing technology
which ensures power transmission is optimal.
Safety is always a key consideration for Toyota and the new Altis
is no exception. All models offer GOA chassis integrity, side impact
beams, SRS airbag protection, auto-tensioning seat belts with three-point
anchorage front and rear and ABS braking with ancillary safety functions.
Toyota has service centres all over Thailand so should you need it,
help is at hand wherever you go.
The new Altis is designed to run on E20 Gasohol and is warranted
for three years or 100,000 kilometres.
