All New Honda City

With exciting looks, more interior space, improved performance and an advanced fuel economy management system, the all-new Honda City is designed to take on the competition in the sub-compact market, and to win.

All new Honda City

Initially the car will be offered in three variants – the S, the V and the top of the range SV. The first two have a beige keyed interior and the SV is trimmed in black. Each model has distinctively different metallic wheels.

The new car’s profile is taut and athletic with a strong road stance and high lines flowing back from a huge front bumper making a taut statement about the model’s performance. It is a much more attractive package than the City it replaces. The flared headlights give stature to the front aspect and the rear lights have a sporty look. The SV has extra foglamps set into the front bumper.

The modular, incorporated door mirrors are said to give 15 percent more rear view capability.

With a wheelbase of 4,395mm, a width of 1,695mm and an overall height of 1,470mm the new Honda City is longer, wider but lower than the old model. Using the usual Honda magic there is more legroom front and rear and the between-seat space is also larger. All very welcome on those longer trips. There are plenty of cup-holders and cubby holes to store all those bits and pieces including a neat tray on the lower part of the front door to accommodate an umbrella or driving shoes. The armrests have space for a water canteen. The instruments are well laid out – the orange dials on a black background are easy to read as well as being easy on the eye. The steering wheel can be adjusted in four directions. Electric windows, central locking and remote control key are standard on all variants. All new Honda City

The advanced audio sound system can be connected to your iPod via a USB or AUX interface on the audio control dashboard (available only in models V and SV). This spacious LCD display is matched with an I-Power 45 Watt x 4 Channel amplifier and 4 PP Cone Neodymium speakers with additional Hard Dome speakers for quality high fidelity. In addition, the sound system and the DSP graphic Equaliser controls are installed so that they are accessible to the front passenger.

The 60:40 split of the folding rear seats adds to the 506-litre luggage capacity. More than enough for several sets of golf clubs!

The new City has the same engine as the Jazz – the L15i-DSI (Dual and sequential Ignition). The I-series, four-cylinder 1.5 litre unit turns out 120 horse power, 10 more horses than the previous model. The Drive-By-Wire throttle incorporates a new Shift Hold System which reacts proportionately to any movement of the accelerator.

The engine is designed to run on Gasohol E20 and meets the EU emission regulations. There is a choice of a five-speed manual or automatic transmission incorporating Grade Logic Control so whatever the road conditions the driver will always have the maximum torque available. The SV model offers paddle shift gear selection.

The suspension is firm with no perceptible roll even when cornering fast. It is based on Macpherson struts at the front and H-shape axle architecture at the rear. Full ABS braking is standard. The V and SV models come with automatic seat belts.

The new Honda City is available in a choice of six colours: Habanero Red (pearl), Keep Lapis Blue (metallic), Alabaster Silver (metallic), Polished Metal Grey (metallic), Bold Beige Gold (metallic) and Crystal Black (pearl).

We have come full circle from Henry Ford’s day. ‘You can have any colour as long as it’s not black‘. Or white for that matter.
