This compact, bulldog stance with the ingenious 'wheel at each corner' concept, originally designed by Sir Alec Issigonis, not only creates space on the inside and saves space on the outside, it's also one factor behind the MINI's typically sporty go-kart feeling. The eye-catching badge is just one of the reasons that other drivers will know it's the MINI Cooper S in front of them and the striking wing-shaped roof spoiler with a third connection to the roof reduces lift at high speeds and contributes to the striking profile and sporty appearance.

And it's a mean machine under the bonnet. Champing at the bit before it even starts up, the MINI Cooper S engine is a real livewire. With its twin-scroll turbocharger, unusual in the small-car sector, and the 'Overboost' function, which ups the torque to 260 Nm, extra-sporty kicks and rapid overtaking are almost inevitable! The gearbox is a six-speed manual transmission, with dual-cone synchronisation enabling crisp, effortless gear changes. A six-speed automatic transmission is also available as an option. The MINI Cooper S sounds as good as it drives-thanks to a cool looking exhaust system and a specially developed sound system connected to the air intake system.

On the inside it's full of neat surprises, with a great ergonomic layout for a great driving experience. A height-adjustable steering wheel and driver's seat allow the MINI to accommodate people of all shapes and sizes in superb comfort. The optimum positioning of seat, steering wheel, pedals and gear lever guarantee straight-line seating, however many bends you take. And there's no wrestling with the steering wheel either, as it requires only 2.5 turns from lock to lock. There's a choice of different seating arrangements in the MINI Cooper S, with a variety of upholstery in cloth, cloth/leather and leather to suit every taste.

Occupying a unique position in the middle of the dashboard is the speedometer, which in the MINI hatchback also contains the entertainment and navigation functions. The whole instrument panel is modern and an ingenious design ensures that the driving experience is effortless yet fun.

The facia is available in a variety of surfaces and elliptical door rings which complement the instrument panel give the MINI this unique inside view.

The MINI is not only the most fun small car to drive, it's also one of the safest. And that's official! In April 2007, the MINI received the highest possible score of five stars in the Euro NCAP Crash Test with regard to adult occupant safety. Sophisticated, high-precision regulating and suspension systems combine with perfectly tailored disc brakes to eliminate dangerous situations before they arise.

All MINI's have Anti-Lock Braking System, Cornering Brake Control , Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist as standard. Further, Automatic Stability Control with Traction control is standard on the MINI Cooper D and MINI Cooper S and an option on the MINI One and MINI Cooper.
