Where are you from originally?
I was born in Sydney, Australia. My mother is American and my father Australian, so I spent time in both countries, growing up.

What made you decide to move here?
I was captaining a luxury yacht out of Singapore, and was asked to sail her to Phuket. I took an immediate liking to the place and hit it off with some of the local charter operators. In 2004, the yacht owner decided to sell up, and Starship Yachts offered me a position in their Phuket sales office. I jumped at the chance.

What’s it about the job which appeals to you?
I’d spent years as a ship’s captain, forever at the beck and call of the owners. I decided I needed to settle down ashore, but I still wanted to be around boats.

How do you approach your job?
You’ve got to be knowledgeable about your products, and deal with people honestly. That’s the only way.

Do you think you’re successful in your line of work?
Yes, of course. Otherwise I’d be doing something else. Selling luxury yachts is tough in the present business climate, but it’s worth the effort.

What’s your philosophy for life?
Work hard, and play harder. I firmly believe that whatever you’re doing, you should give it 100%, and you’ll be rewarded.

Whereabouts do you live in Phuket?
I’m living in Kamala at the moment. It’s conveniently located between Surin and Patong, and only two minutes from the beach.

What do you like and dislike about Phuket?
I like the food, the beaches, the offshore islands, the golf courses, and the lifestyle is great. I dislike the traffic, the bureaucracy, and sometimes the heat is a bit too much.

Do you have family here?
No immediate family in Phuket, but I do have a girlfriend.

What do you do with your free time? I like to hit the gym, play sports, surf and I try to get at least one game of golf a week.

Were you born in Phuket?
Yes. I attended high school here and then went to Walailak University in Nakorn Sri Thammarat Province, where I studied Tourism Management. After graduation, I worked in Community Relations at Laguna Resort. From there I moved to Hotel Travel, in the Customer Services Department and then I joined Kan Eang@pier (that’s the seafood restaurant near Chalong Pier), as Sales & Public Relations Manager, where I am now.

What made you decide to work at Kan Eang@pier? I’ve known the owner since I was a child – her daughter and I are good friends.

What does your job involve? Advertising, sales and marketing. I also act as event organiser. In this hospitality business, I learn new things every day. The internet is also a great source of information.

What are your future plans? I still feel I’ve some way to go. There’s so much to learn. Generally, I’m happy with my job and my responsibilities. I don’t mind working long hours. I’m not a clock watcher.

Could you tell us about your private life? I’m one of four children, I’m single, and plan to stay that way for now. I still live with my parents.

How is Phuket in your view? It’s still small enough, so you feel you know everybody. It has great natural beauty and is well-developed. The absolutely worst thing is the traffic jams – it’s all because we don’t have a proper system of public transport.

Where do you like to go in Phuket? I love to go to the beach and to visit the surrounding islands like Koh Hae (Coral Island), but unfortunately I don’t get as much time as I’d like to do this.

What’s your life style? I’m pretty easy-going. My time is divided –70% for work and 30% for family. I love to read, so I spend most of my free time at the book shops. What is your life motto? Live your life one day at a time.
