“This was the club’s first real attempt in 19 years to throw a ‘major league’ party of its own,” said ACYC Commodore Grenville Fordham, noting that the month before the club had hosted more than 200 guests on behalf of the Sabang Regatta organisers. “The difference this time was that the club was footing the bill – or at least making up the difference between the heavily subsidised ticket price and the cost of staging the event,” he added.



But why throw a party for year 19? “We decided to hold a 20th Birthday Party next year, but thought it would be a good idea to get in a bit of practice first,” said Fordham.

ACYC is Phuket’s only ‘big boat’ yacht club, with its own spacious beachside bar & restaurant, club racing twice each month, RYA accredited theory courses, occasional weekend raft-ups away and an active social scene. “You don’t have to be a boat owner – or even an avid sailor – to enjoy dropping by the club in an evening and setting the world to rights over an ice cold beer or two,” said Fordham.
