The Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism chose the beachfront Ao Chalong Yacht Club (ACYC) to host a party on 19 August, aimed at attracting participants to the inaugural Sabang International Regatta, which was due for a send-off with a Champagne breakfast at ACYC just as this issue of WINDOW went to print.
Invited by ACYC, an estimated 300 guests showed up to the promotional party, with a very high proportion actively involved in the yachting scene – the regattza organisers’ key target.
Guests wined and dined on fare prepared in the yacht club’s kitchen and were treated to energetic Indonesian traditional dance performances and live music on stage.
During a break in the entertainment, key members of the regatta organising group presented detailed information about this new yachting event and invited guests to pose questions. Then the partying went on in earnest into the early hours of the morning.
“The yacht club is a perfect waterfront venue for a party; we’ve got one of the best locations on Phuket,” said Commodore Grenville Fordham, adding, “Anyone, member or non-member, who is planning to hold a private party can contact me; we then work together to put a plan and a price in place.”
