Things to do in Phuket (High Season Entertainment)

Come the high season, which officially starts on the first of November when the monsoon winds change from southwesterly to northeasterly and the rains cease, the hotels are all full and everybody and his brother (and to be politically correct) his sister, head for the beaches. Phuket however, has much more to offer you than just the chance to achieve that perfect tan. When you’ve got it you have to flaunt it!

High Season Entertainment

Go Kart: This is one activity in Phuket you simply cannot miss – an open wheeler motor sport for those who love speed. Bring your friends for some heart pumping kart racing. Start the adrenalin rush as you power round the track or share the thrills in the special double seater kart. It's a fun sport but not dangerous.

Phuket Kart located on Prabaramee Road in Kathu, is the place to go for some good go kart racing. It's fun and everyone can do it. High Season Entertainment

Phuket Kart is open daily from 9am to 7pm. Tel: 076 202 058 and 08 9728 9712. Another open wheeler venue is Patong Go-Kart Speedway which is located on Vichitsongkram Road and is also open everyday. Tel: 076 321 949.

Rafting: Experience the ultimate rafting expedition! Try white water rafting on fast flowing rapids and down exhilarating and adrenalin filled courses.

Most of the rafting activities are done in the Phang Nga area along mountain rivers fringed with forest. Be prepared to get wet! Contact The Traveller on 08 6948 8440 for more information.

Parasailing: Ever wish you could fly like a bird, soaring and diving effortlessly with the wind in your face, and experience views of this beautiful island from a new and exciting perspective? Phuket now offers you the chance to do exactly this. It's called parasailing. The parasail is a specially designed parachute which you wear, and which is then towed behind a speedboat. Suddenly you are airborne and looking down on mere mortals. There are several operators on Patong Beach and prices start at 2,000 baht.

High Season EntertainmentCable Ski: Here is another great sporting activity for the speed lover. Phuket Cable Ski, situated beside a tropical garden in Kathu, is on a large fresh water lake 410 metres long by 110 metres wide and is 2 metres deep. You can try knee boards, double skis, slalom (single) skis, wake boards, ski disks and trick skis. All equipment is available for rent or you can bring your own. Costs range from 500 baht for 30 minutes to 1,500 baht for a full day.

Phuket Cable Ski is open daily from 10am to 6.30pm. For more information call 076 202 525-7.

Banana Boat: Another alternative for enjoyment with a group of friends is the banana boat. This rubber boat is yellow and shaped like a banana (Okay, Okay! Maybe some people might not know this) can carry a maximum of five people and is towed behind a jet ski, which swerves and jinks through the waves. It’s a bit like aquatic bronco-busting – the clever bit is staying on. Of course eventually everybody does get a dunking and getting back on is all part of the fun. There are several operators on Patong Beach and prices start from 2,000 baht.

Surfing: The good news for surf lovers is that surfing in Phuket is great; the waves at most of the beaches are predictable and fun to ride during this season, so even if you are beginner you can find plenty of great beaches like Kalim, Kata, Karon, Patong and Nai Harn to hone your skills. These beaches have become popular surfing destinations and now offer surf shops and tuition centres for all skill levels.
